A cable channel recorded its highest viewership total in history with a program that aired Sunday. Announcing the milestone was National Geographic Channel, which had an average turnout of 3.4 million total viewers for the two-hour premiere of "Killing Kennedy."

The total is the highest in NGC history. The original program also delivered a 2.8 household rating, the network’s second highest ever, and a 1.1 average rating in the 25-54 demo.

The drama, which is based on the book by Bill O’Reilly, is executive produced by Ridley Scott and stars Rob Lowe as JFK and Will Rothhaar as Lee Harvey Oswald. The program is set for an encore telecast Friday, Nov. 15, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

"The 1.1 P25–54 is the highest-rated P25–54 since the premiere of ‘Killing Lincoln’ in February 2013 (also a 1.1 P25–54), and is more than 175% higher than NGC’s Sunday 8–10 p.m average so far this calendar year (.4 P25–54)," the network announced. "Additionally, the hashtag #killingkennedy trended worldwide last night on Twitter, etc. During the broadcast, it became the #1 trending topic in the U.S., and across both Trendrr and Social Guide ‘Killing Kennedy’ was in the top 10 for total social mentions amongst all prime-time cable programs last night. The website also experienced 2.1 million total page views, a record for the network in one night, and 9.8 million total page views over the past three weeks."
