CBS chief Leslie Moonves told analysts on a conference call to discuss his company’s third-quarter earnings that the broadcaster’s results were not hurt by the Time Warner Cable blackout, reports Deadline.com.
Moonves "rubbed a little salt into the cable operators’ wounds" with the remark, the story notes. The comment comes after Time Warner Cable last week announced a hefty loss of subscribers, as previously reported. The company shed 306,000 video customers, and blamed its battle with CBS.
Moonves "put other pay TV distributors on notice that CBS’s revenues from retransmission consent fees are up 50% so far this year and ‘you’ll see even bigger increases in the years to come’ — even without giving up streaming rights to its programs," Deadline reports.
"We don’t lose any sleep,” CBS Chief Operating Officer Joseph Ianniello said, according to the story. “As long as consumers have a choice [with satellite or telco video providers] they’ll always find CBS.”
