After a bidding war among multiple cable networks, Cinemax has landed a new project from "The Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman, The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports.

The drama, "Outcast," is based on a comic of the same name from Kirkman, which hasn’t yet been published. The comic book is about a man who has been dealing with possession since he was a child, and as an adult is searching for answers, the story says. The book will be published next year.

Kirkman will write the script, his first time writing a pilot. He will also executive produce with David Alpert of Circle of Confusion. The drama comes from Fox International Channels, which also distributes "The Walking Dead" worldwide.

"Despite the success of ‘The Walking Dead,’ ‘Outcast’ is only my second foray into the horror genre," Kirkman said. "I think Kyle Barnes is every bit as compelling as Rick Grimes and demonic possession is way scarier than zombies — so this is going to be fun."
