CNN Racks Up Its Worst Ratings in More Than a Year

CNN recorded its lowest prime-time ratings in more than a year on Wednesday night, with numbers approaching the network’s record lows from the summer of 2012, The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports.

But all three major cable news networks saw boosts to their ratings earlier in the day, when Fox News, CNN and MSNBC aired live coverage as Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius testified.

From 8-11 p.m., CNN averaged just 67,000 viewers in the key news demographic of viewers 25-54. That trailed HLN’s 93,000 and CNBC’s 79,000, and was far behind Fox News’ 396,000 and MSNBC’s 127,000.

"CNN’s ratings haven’t been as low since Aug. 10 of last year (62,000), when it was contending with the 2012 London Olympics," the story notes.

  1. OK, now that all of the networks have been abandon by all except the very dumbist of the lowest common denominator, maybe they should do something like actually covering both sides of a real news story instead of info-tainment & tabloid horse sh*t.

  2. The reason for this long fall in rating is easy to see. It used to be the Cable News Network, and now it’s Cable Not News. Putting Nancy Grace on what was Headline News was the beginning of the end for them.

  3. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

  4. Scott Gilbert, yes nancy grace sucks but she draws viewers. HLN gets better ratings than CNN. Get rid of dopes like Anderson cooper.

  5. Morgan, Nancy belongs on the Lifetime Womens channel. Her shrill 1 sided opinions have no business being on any news channel anymore than Rush Limbaugh. Just because it draws viewers doesn’t mean it’s good.

  6. I think the new News Dir. should be calling his agent about looking into another job.
