Furor Continues Over Jimmy Kimmel Skit — White House to Weigh In

While Jimmy Kimmel and ABC have apologized for a recent skit in which a child suggested the United States should "kill everyone in China" to get rid of the country’s debt, the furor over the skit isn’t dying down, The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports.

Instead, the segment will now receive a response from the White House, after an official petition at WhiteHouse.gov received the 100,000 signatures required to receive an official administration response, the story says.

The petition, started Oct. 19 by "H.Z." from Cedar Park, Texas, reads, "The kids might not know anything better. However, Jimmy Kimmel and ABC’s management are adults. They had a choice not to air this racist program, which promotes racial hatred."

The report notes: "Kimmel’s skit has already prompted several mea culpas, including the host greeting protesters outside his Hollywood Blvd. studio and apologizing in person."

Kimmel reportedly said when he met with protesters: "I come to you with nothing but love in my heart. I’m a comedian, I was trying to make people laugh; I’m sorry that I did it."

The official White House website promises only that staffers will review a petition that attracts enough signatures, and that it will receive an official response.

The petition has received "some rather unlikely requests," THR notes, including this one: "The program is totally unacceptable and it must be cut. A sincere apology must be issued. It is extremely distasteful, and this is the same rhetoric used in Nazi Germany against Jewish people."

The report adds: "In addition to calling for [Kimmel's] firing, the Los Angeles group that assembled in front of the El Capitan Theatre held up signs with a Hitler mustache drawn onto Kimmel’s face."

  1. Well I am glad I live in a country where the right of folks to complain about this stuff is protected.
Even more glad that my right to laugh at their overwrought protests is also protected.
Seriously do folks not understand how public discourse (not to mention comedy) works?
What a bunch of maroons. When you look less reasonable than Kanye West, you know there is a problem with your behavior.

  3. Let’s blame Hollywood & the media! Obviously these children had to have formed their attitudes from watching TV and going to movies. That the work “kill” even came up is proof that the media is responsible! And doesn’t our president use drones to kill people we don’t like? Must be OK in some cases. And the reference to Hitler – OMG what a fool! They can’t tell the difference between a 5 year old kid and an animal the murdered 12 million people -half of the Jewish!!
Please just take a deep breath and keep moving – nothing to see here.

  4. Everyone is racist. Every bloody fool out there is waiting for a chance to prance in front of cameras with some inane poster to protest every tiny crumb of perceived racism. Kimmel did nothing wrong. Hitler did EVERYTHING wrong. China’s multi-billion population, its pollution, its overwhelming desire to rule the world though economic blackmail that forces children and adults to work in horrifying conditions with little compensation is enough reason to tout the desire to wipe ‘em out. Go Jimmy! You’re cool–Chinese ain’t.

  5. As if the White House doesn’t have anything more important to do…

  6. A true sign of the absolute stupidity of the American public is when they try to call ANYONE another Hitler? They looked like idiots with their Obama Hitler posters and even worse with their Kimmel Hitler posters. How ironic – using racism to protest racism! F**ktards.

  7. Kimmel is an insensitive gerk. After the Boston Marathon attacks, every talk show host except Kimmel addressed the tragedy. Kimmel didn’t even mention it. He is a narcissist who cares only about himself. And his humor is often mean-spirited and not funny. Such as this racist slam at Chinese.

  8. “Gerk”? Really Bob, “gerk”! WTF is a gerk? If Mahar had said what Kimmel did, the libs would still be laughing!
