FX has placed a series order for a vampire drama. Deadline.com reports that the cable channel ordered 13 episodes of the Guillermo del Toro series “The Strain.”

The project, based on a book trilogy from del Toro and Chuck Hogan, landed at FX after a bidding war, the piece notes.

“‘The Strain’ now is heading into production on its first season, with the bulk of the scripts already completed and one major casting change. The role of Professor Abraham Setrakian, played in the pilot by John Hurt, is being recast,” the story notes.

Corey Stoll, who played Rep. Peter Russo in Netflix’s "House of Cards," leads the cast of "The Strain." Stoll portrays Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, who heads a Centers for Disease Control team that investigates an outbreak of vampirism.
