Syfy has a drama project in development based on an old piece of literature that has been on a lot of educators’ reading lists. Deadline.com reports that the cable channel is working on a series adaptation of the Old English epic poem "Beowulf."

The project will be written by Matt Greenberg of "1408," who will executive produce with Brian Hamilton, Michael Chechik, Andrew Cosby and Paulo de Oliveira, the piece reports. Omni will produce and also distribute with Universal Cable Productions.

"Beowulf," about a hero who battles the monster Grendel, was the subject of a 2007 motion capture film, which bore the same title and was directed by Robert Zemeckis.
