A pilot for an apocalyptic drama called “The Messengers” has received an order. Deadline.com reports that the project was greenlighted by the CW, continuing the network’s focus on the genre/fantasy arena.

The project is about a mysterious object that crashes to Earth, killing a group of apparent strangers with an energy pulse. They come back to life, however, and learn their role is to prevent the Apocalypse.

The project is from Basil Iwanyk of the "Clash of the Titans” film franchise and CBS TV Studios. The project is written by Eoghan O’Donnell of “Teen Wolf,” with Ted Humphrey of “The Good Wife” supervising.

The project joins five other pilots in the works at the CW, with “The Flash,” “iZombie” and the “Supernatural” spinoff among them, along with "Identity" and "Jane the Virgin."
