New MSNBC Show Rolls Out — and Hardly Anyone Tunes In

It could be a tough road ahead for a new MSNBC show if it hopes to attract an audience. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that the cable news channel’s new show “Ronan Farrow Daily” premiered Monday to only 46,000 viewers in the key news demo of viewers 25-54, representing a 51% decline from the channel’s February average in the 1 p.m. hour.

That placed the show third in the time slot among cable news channels, behind Fox News’ “America’s News Headquarters” and CNN’s “Wolf.”

Among total viewers, Farrow also ranked third, drawing 216,000 viewers, down 26%. That number tied the show with “Jansing & Co.” as MSNBC’s least watched show of the day, the story says.

“First-day ratings should always be taken with a grain of salt in the fluid cable news landscape, but it is not the most promising start for the broadcast. In a bid, in part, to appeal to a younger set, MSNBC first approached Farrow last summer,” the story notes.

It adds, “But Farrow’s audience skewed decidedly older. Among adults 18-49, he averaged just 21,000 viewers.”
