One of the stars of the NBC and TNT drama series "Southland" has signed on with the "Batman" prequel that’s in the works at the Fox Network.
The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that Ben McKenzie will play James Gordon, the city’s commissioner, in “Gotham.”
“Gotham” is an origin story that will focus on Commissioner Gordon and the evil-doers who haunt the city, the story notes. The project is written and executive produced by “The Mentalist” showrunner Bruno Heller, while Danny Cannon of “CSI” will direct and executive produce the pilot.
In the project, Gordon is still a rookie detective for the police department’s homicide unit. His character is said to be a war hero and former college football star who is idealistic but also has an “ambitious alpha male ego,” the story says.
