A 2007 Stephen King story is reportedly being developed into a television drama series. TheWrap.com reports that the short story “Ayana” is in the works at Universal Television.

NBC is considering the project, although Universal will take it to other outlets if the broadcaster passes, the piece notes. The pilot will be written by Chris Sparling of “Buried,” with Ben Haber producing and Jordan Kerner of “Less Than Zero” executive producing.

According to StephenKing.com, the story is about a man whose father is dying of pancreatic cancer. “A strange little girl named Ayana arrives at his hospital room and gives him a kiss — but not a ‘kiss of death.’ Instead his father miraculously recovers," the website reports. "The narrator must repay this miracle, though, and over the years is called upon to do so.”
