A television news anchor suddenly announced she was quitting her job as she closed her broadcast Wednesday. CNN reports that American anchor Liz Wahl wrapped up her broadcast on the Kremlin-funded Russia Today network by resigning on-air.

Wahl talked about her family, who moved to America to escape Soviet forces in the 1965 Hungarian revolution, and growing up in a family with ties to the U.S. military.

“And that is why, personally, I cannot be part of a network funded by the Russian government that whitewashes the actions of [Russian President Vladimir] Putin," Wahl said.

"I’m proud to be an American and believe in disseminating the truth," she added. "And that is why, after this newscast, I’m resigning."

Russia Today called her resignation “nothing more than a self-promotional stunt” and said she would have been urged to quit “like a professional” if she couldn’t “address those grievances with the editor.”

Wahl denied she made the on-air resignation for personal gain. She said she decided to make the statement based on her conviction that “the propagandist nature of RT (had come) out in full force" during its coverage of the Ukraine crisis.

“RT is not about the truth; it’s about promoting a Putinist agenda," Wahl told CNN. "And I can tell you firsthand, it’s about bashing America."

Here’s the clip of Wahl’s resignation, which has gone viral on the Internet:
