With daytime TV favorite Ellen DeGeneres hosting the 86th Academy Awards, Sunday’s ABC broadcast saw a ratings improvement over last year and pulled in the show’s biggest numbers since 2005, based on early results, TheWrap.com reports.
"The ABC telecast earned a 27.9 household rating/41 share in the 56 markets metered by Nielsen, a very preliminary measurement," the story reports. "That’s an increase of 7 percent from 2013′s 26.1/41, when the awards show was hosted by Seth MacFarlane."
The Oscars dominated prime-time programming on the broadcast channels. "ABC’s Academy Awards telecast and ‘Oscar’s Red Carpet 2014’ pre-show during Sunday’s prime time (7-11 p.m. for ABC, CBS and NBC, 7-10 p.m. for Fox) topped CBS, NBC and Fox combined by 224 percent on average in the U.S. Household Metered Markets (ABC had a 21.4 rating vs. a combined 6.6)," TheWrap reports.
