‘Game of Thrones: The Movie?’ — Here’s the Latest

George R. R. Martin, the writer whose books are the basis of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” series, says a movie to wrap up the series is under discussion, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"It all depends on how long the main series runs," Martin said. “Do we run for seven years? Do we run for eight? Do we run for 10? The books get bigger and bigger (in scope). It might need a feature to tie things up, something with a feature budget, like $100 million for two hours. Those dragons get real big, you know."

Another possibility for a big-screen “Game of Thrones”-related movie would be to focus on “Tales of Dunk and Egg,” three prequel novellas set in Westeros 90 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” the story notes.

The report adds: "Warner Bros. would be the natural fit for a studio partner. Warners released the two films based on the long-running HBO series ‘Sex and the City’ and is behind the upcoming big-screen adaptation of ‘Entourage.’ The studio also knows how to market a dragon tale, with its ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ having earned nearly $1 billion worldwide."
