A&E to Remake French Series — With a Premise That’s a Lot Like a Current TV Drama

A&E is on familiar ground with its decision to remake a French series, the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker reports. The network gave a 10-episode order for the first season of the new project, which is based on the French series "The Returned."

The show will have former “Lost” showrunner Carlton Cuse and former “True Blood” writer Raelle Tucker as executive producers, the report notes.

The original series has already been broadcast in the U.S., where it aired on the Sundance Channel. The premise is that formerly dead residents of a small town start returning, and are unaware that they had died.

It’s similar to the premise of the current ABC limited-run show “Resurrection,” which was adapted from a novel by Jason Mott called “The Return.” “Resurrection” has performed well for ABC, but it’s not clear whether it will return after its May 4 episode, the piece adds.
