A hotly anticipated new series got a warm reception for its premiere Tuesday night. TheWrap.com reports that the new FX 10-part series "Fargo" delivered 4.15 million total viewers, including 1.79 million in the key 18-49 demo.

The limited-run dark comedy-drama series, based on the 1996 feature film of the same name, stars Billy Bob Thornton and Colin Hanks.

In a press release today, John Landgraf, chief executive officer of FX Networks and FX Productions, said: “We are incredibly proud of the towering creative achievement by Noah Hawley and everyone involved with ‘Fargo.' The performances by Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman, Allison Tolman, Colin Hanks, and the entire stellar cast are nothing short of extraordinary. This is truly one of the best shows we've ever had on the network. We're thrilled with the initial viewership last night and really excited for audiences to see the rest of the miniseries.”
