DirecTV Makes Weather Channel Remove Much of Its Programming

DirecTV is making The Weather Channel change its programming lineup as part of its new carriage agreement, reports the New York Post. The cable channel will remove half of its weekday reality programming as part of the deal, the story reports.

Weather Channel will replace shows such as “Coast Guard Alaska” with live weather reports.

“The change will be most evident in the afternoon as reality shows at that time will disappear, though the network said those shows were nothing but repeats,” the story notes. “Still, having a distribution partner dictate what’s on the airwaves is unheard of.”

While details of the carriage agreement weren’t disclosed, DirecTV is reportedly paying a slightly increased carriage fee for Weather Channel.
