Ryan Seacrest Appears Headed Back to ‘American Idol’ — But How Will It Affect His NBC Job?

Ryan Seacrest is closing in on a renewal of his contract with Fox’s “American Idol,” although the future of his work for NBCUniversal is up in the air, reports TheWrap.com.

Seacrest will reportedly sign an agreement to stay with the singing competition for at least two more years, which would take him through the show’s 15th season. Fox and producer 19 Entertainment didn’t have a comment on the talks, the story notes.

The piece adds, “Seacrest's future with NBCUniversal is less clear. In 2012, he signed an extensive talent contract deal with NBCUniversal that included contributions to the ‘Today’ show, Olympics coverage, election coverage and other special events. But his role on ‘Today’ never became very substantial.”

Seacrest is now looking to curtail his red carpet appearances for NBCUniversal’s E! News, the piece adds, noting: “If he doesn't renew his deal with NBCU, which has already lapsed, he will continue producing and pitching series to the network."

On the radio front, Seacrest wants to expand his deal with Clear Channel Communications, producing shows through Ryan Seacrest Productions, the story adds.
