Verizon is seeking to pacify Dodger fans who can’t watch the team, given FiOS’ lack of a deal to carry SportsNet LA, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The service is offering three free months of HBO or Showtime, the story reports.
Verizon is talking with Time Warner Cable, which is handling licensing for SportsNet LA, but hasn’t yet come to an agreement, because of what Verizon says is a high price.
“We think enough of our customers who we deem avid Dodger fans that we have extended an offer for three months of free HBO or Showtime," a Verizon spokesman said. “While we seek a fair and equitable agreement with Time Warner Cable on behalf of our customers, we hope this offer is incentive enough to remain a FiOS customer."
Verizon has about 800,000 customers in the Dodgers’ Southern California area, the story notes.
