ABC announced it is scrapping a prime-time series, while also announcing renewals for a number of shows along with pickups of new series. TheWrap.com reports that the freshman comedy "Trophy Wife" was canceled, while the network gave renewals to shows including “The Middle,” “Modern Family” and the Shonda Rhimes shows “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal."

The renewal for “Grey’s Anatomy” means the show is entering its 11th season, while both “Scandal” and “Revenge,” with the latter also receiving a renewal, will return for their fourth seasons, the story notes.

TheWrap reports separately that ABC gave a second season to “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD,” and also gave a series order to “Marvel’s Agent Carter,” which stars “Captain America” actress Hayley Atwell. ABC has also greenlighted the comedy “Manhattan Love Story,” and ordered the series “Forever.”

The comedy “Selfie,” which stars Karen Gillan from “Doctor Who,” was also given a series order.

The network renewed the comedy “The Middle,” which TheWrap reports has been a “quiet performer” on ABC's Wednesday night schedule. The piece notes, “While it hasn't gotten as much buzz over the years as its flashier neighbor, ‘Modern Family’ — also on Wednesdays — it has found a loyal audience, becoming a solid lead-off show for the night."

Both “The Middle” and “Modern Family” will be returning for sixth seasons. Additionally, “The Goldbergs” was renewed for a second season.

On the cancellation of “Trophy Wife,” the report notes: “The comedy — starring Bradley Whitford, Malin Akerman, Michaela Watkins and Marcia Gay Harden — struggled to find an audience on Tuesday nights. It also struggled to get out from under the negative stigma its misleading title gave potential viewers."
