“American Idol” alum Clay Aiken was announced as the winner of a Democratic primary in North Carolina for a congressional seat, with the announcement coming a day after his main opponent was found dead, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Aiken, who won against Keith Crisco by 369 votes, will run against Republican incumbent Renee Elmers for the seat, the story notes. Crisco, 71, died after an accidental fall, after he had decided hours earlier to concede the close race, the story says.

Aiken declined to comment on the results, after his campaign had suspended activities after Aiken learned of Crisco’s death, the piece adds.
