A best-selling author whose books include "The Notebook," "A Walk to Remember" and "Safe Haven" is set to make his TV debut as an executive producer on Lifetime's Civil War drama "Deliverance Creek."

The two-hour event program is scheduled to premiere Saturday, Sept. 13, with author Nicholas Sparks on board.

"From executive producer/writer Melissa Carter ('Jane By Design,' 'Little Black Book') and starring Emmy nominee/SAG Award winner Lauren Ambrose ('Six Feet Under'), 'Deliverance Creek' is a revenge drama centering on a widow and mother of three who is determined to protect her family and land at any cost during the Civil War," Lifetime said in a release. "'Deliverance Creek' also stars Wes Ramsey ('CSI: Miami'), Yaani King ('Mad Men'), Caitlin Custer ('Teen Wolf'), Christopher Backus ('Elevator'), Riley Smith ('90210'), Katherine Willis ('Friday Night Lights') and Christopher Baker ('Sanctum').  Skeet Ulrich ('Jericho,' 'Scream'), Barry Tubb ('Revolution') and Joel Johnstone ('The Newsroom') guest star."

The project is written by Melissa Carter and directed by Jon Amiel ("The Borgias").

The release adds this description of the story: "Two years into the Civil War, Belle Gatlin Barlowe (Ambrose) faces uncertainty in the life before her as she attempts to defend her family’s land by any means necessary. When the corrupt bank that runs their town pushes Belle into becoming an outlaw, the stakes become personal, setting off a chain of events that force her to question whether it’s better to be good or to survive."
