The canceled NBC cult comedy “Community” may live on. Writing on Deadline.com, Nellie Andreeva reports that the series' producer, Sony Pictures TV, is talking with Hulu about continuing the show on the online streaming service.

“Sources stress that conversations are preliminary and it is unclear whether they would lead to a deal, but I hear there is will on both sides,” Andreeva writes.

That also includes creator Dan Harmon, who originally said “eh” when he was informed about the show's cancellation, she notes.

Andreeva writes: “With its devoted following by a core group of passionate fans, ‘Community’ is the type of show digital platforms crave. Complicating the series’ options is the fact that it has a digital syndication deal in place with Hulu, in addition to a cable off-network pact with Comedy Central. That makes Hulu a perfect home for the comedy as it is the kind of streaming service where a show like ‘Community’ would do best and because it already carries the series’ library via an existing agreement with Sony.”

Bringing “Community” to Hulu would “make a statement” for the streaming service, which is committed to adding original programming, the piece adds. Sony TV also has a good track record in bringing back canceled series or shifting shows, including moving “Damages” to DirecTV after it was canceled by FX and bringing back “Unforgettable” on CBS, the story notes.
