The former president of NBC News has been hired as the new executive producer of "CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley.” TVNewser reports that Steve Capus was named to the post and will also become executive editor of the CBS News unit.

Capus, who will start his new job in July, was president of NBC News from 2005-2013, and prior to that was executive producer of “NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw” and later with Brian Williams. His appointment is a replacement for Patricia Shevlin, who is moving to “60 Minutes.”

The story notes: “Capus will now be competing head-to-head against his friend and former NBC colleague Brian Williams. Capus also produced Williams’ MSNBC show in the late 1990s before moving up the ranks at NBC News.”
