Hulu, which announced it has reached 6 million Hulu Plus subscribers — up from 5 million at the end of 2013 — is expanding its slate of original programming with a “Real Housewives” parody and a reality-style drama about dancers, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker.

Chief Executive Mike Hopkins, speaking at the service’s upfront presentation Wednesday in New York City, said Hulu will quadruple its investment in original programming over the next year.

The service is adding “The Hotwives of Orlando,” a parody of the “Real Housewives” franchise, and the dancing drama “The Next Step,” which will premiere in May.

Hulu also said the original series it debuted in 2013, which include “Moone Boy” and “Quick Draw,” will return, as will the supernatural comedy “Deadbeat,” which debuted last month.
