Hafthor Julius Bjornsson, who plays Gregor “The Mountain That Rides” Clegane on “Game of Thrones,” is a real-life strongman, coming in second in this year’s World’s Strongest Man competition, reports the New York Post.
Bjornsson can bench press 500 pounds, squat 770 pounds and deadlift 925 pounds, the story reports. He weighs 419 pounds and is 6 feet 9 inches tall. Bjornsson had never acted before he was cast in HBO’s fantasy drama, instead focusing on his career as a professional strongman, the piece adds.
He will be featured in the show’s next episode, when he duels Oberyn Martell. Showrunner Dan Weiss told EW.com’s Inside TV that the fight sequence is “one of the best — if not the best — combat scenes we’ve done so far.”
