New ABC Talent Show Snags Major Music Stars

ABC’s new musical talent competition is set to premiere next month, and based on the lineup of top names who will be a part of it, “Rising Star” could be a strong entry in an already crowded field.

The Los Angeles Times reports that ABC, which is working on the show with Dick Clark Productions, has secured the services of Brad Paisley, Ludacris, Josh Groban and Kesha for the show, which is due to premiere June 22.

“The hook in ‘Rising Star’ is that neither competitors nor viewers will have to wait to find out who stays and who goes: Audience voting will happen in real time over an app, and competitors will be able to see the results as they come in,” the story reports.

The piece adds: “The four members of the show’s ‘panel of experts’ are set to appear together in a preview for the show on Sunday at the Billboard Music Awards, which is being hosted by Ludacris and not coincidentally airing on ABC starting at 8 p.m.”

Behind the cameras, the show’s staff should have a good handle on the competition. The report notes that among the executive producers of “Rising Star,” Ken Warwick is from “American Idol” and Nicolle Yaron worked on “The Voice.”
