This year's BET Awards will be hosted by a comedian who came up through NBC's "Saturday Night Live" and became known for his edgy material. TheWrap.com reports that Chris Rock has been named to host this year's ceremony.

The announcement was made during BET's Wednesday broadcast of “106 & Park,” the report notes.

In a statement, Rock said, “I watch the BET Awards every year. It's one of my favorite award shows combining people from movies, sports, TV and music. Where else can you get Rick Ross and Michelle Obama in the same room?! The BET Awards is like a party where nothing is off limits. My peers have done the show now it's my turn.”

The awards show will air Sunday, June 29, at 8 p.m. on BET Networks. The ceremony will be held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
