A late-night talk show host has started a crowd-funding campaign through Indiegogo to raise money buy the Los Angeles Clippers. The Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker reports that Arsenio Hall launched the campaign to purchase the NBA team from Donald Sterling.

“I’m Arsenio Hall and I need your help to buy the LA Clippers! And if I can’t — at least your money will go to charity! Come on, it's only a billion dollars!” his campaign reads. As of early Wednesday morning, the campaign had raised about $1,800.

The Times notes, “Even the biggest crowd-funded projects to date have managed to raise in the neighborhood of $10 million. So don't hold your breath for an Arsenio Hall-owned basketball team.”

If he fails to meet his goal, Hall said, the money will be donated to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The head of the group’s L.A. chapter stepped down earlier this month after the organization had planned to give an achievement award to Sterling, who has been banned for life from the NBA for making racial comments, the piece notes.

“I’m not naive. I know one billion dollars is a lot of money. For me. For Jay-Z it’s just a good week at the office,” Hall wrote on the fund-raising site. “Help me put YOUR money where MY mouth is. Let’s get busy … buying the Clippers! Or at least let’s get busy giving The National NAACP a boatload of money!”

As previously reported, Oprah Winfrey is also exploring a bid for the team, potentially working with David Geffen and Larry Ellison on an offer.
