The Weather Channel has apologized for sending what it calls an “inappropriate” tweet to a viewer, reports TheWrap.com.

Joel Burns, a city council member in Fort Worth, Texas, had complained that the network’s app was showing the incorrect city in its weather updates, the story says. Burns tweeted, “Dear @weatherchannel I SWEAR I'm deleting your aggravating app if you don't STOP SHOWING DALLAS pics for Fort Worth.”

After not hearing anything, Burns deleted the app and tweeted about it. The network then tweeted back, “Sorry to see you go. Good luck on ending bullying.” That was a reference to an anti-bullying speech that Burns made a few years ago, the story says.

That sparked outcries from other users, with one describing The Weather Channel’s response as “How not to respond to someone who provides feedback.”

The network then apologized. “We apologize for our reply this morning. Our response was inappropriate & we're taking steps to ensure it doesn't happen again,” the network said.
