Why Brian Williams Has Been Missing From ‘NBC Nightly News’

Brian Williams' recent absence from “NBC Nightly News” was explained when it was revealed that Williams was off landing the first-ever U.S. television interview with former NSA contractor and whistleblower Edward Snowden, TVNewser reports.

Williams traveled to Moscow for the interview, where he talked with Snowden for several hours. While Snowden is a U.S. citizen, he has a revoked passport and has been living in exile since he leaked classified documents about American surveillance programs, the piece notes.

“Lester Holt, filling in for Brian Williams on Tuesday’s ‘Nightly News [May 20th, 2014],’ said Williams would be back for Wednesday’s show. When he wasn’t — Holt filled in again — that got us wondering where Williams was. Now we know,” the story adds.

Williams' interview with Snowden will air as an hour-long prime time special on NBC on Wednesday, May 28, at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
