As the Federal Aviation Administration contemplates regulations concerning the use of drones by media organizations, CNN has partnered with Georgia Tech to evaluate the practice, TVNewser reports.
The joint research project is staffed by senior members of the CNN newsgathering team and researchers from the Georgia Tech Research Institute, the report notes. The group will share its findings with the FAA.
In a statement, CNN Senior VP, Legal, David Vigilante said: “Our hope is that by working cooperatively to share knowledge, we can accelerate the process for CNN and other media organizations to safely integrate this new technology into their coverage plans."
There have reportedly been more than 400 crashes by large U.S. military drones since 2001, as we reported previously.
