‘Game of Thrones’ Breaks Its Own Piracy Record

The season finale of “Game of Thrones,” which aired Sunday, became the most pirated show on television, beating even its own record, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker.

1.5 million people downloaded pirated versions of the episode through different websites in the 12 hours after the show’s debut. That number may grow to 7.5 million in the next few days and weeks, the story adds.

According to TorrentFreak, more than a quarter of a million people were downloading the torrent file at the same time, setting a record, the piece notes. The previous record was 200,000 people sharing a single file, which was set by an earlier “Game of Thrones” episode.

It’s likely that “Game of Thrones” will be the most pirated show of 2014, coming off its distinction of being the most pirated show last year, the piece adds.
