A cat that has become an Internet meme will be the star of a television movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the popular Grumpy Cat is getting its own Lifetime movie.
The cable channel is working on the holiday film “Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever” featuring the annoyed-looking feline, the story reports. The movie will be written by Tim Hill of “SpongeBob SquarePants” and Jeff Morris.
The plot will involve a 12-year-old girl who can communicate with the cat, who is constantly passed over for adoption at a pet store.
“It brings fun and irreverence that we haven't had at Lifetime," Arturo Interian, vice president of original movies, told the publication. "We're so known for our heartfelt sentimentality that it will poke fun at those stereotypes."
The network is currently casting the voice of the cat, and will shoot the live-action project this summer. Interian described the project as “a little ‘Home Alone’ and a little ‘Die Hard.’” Other Internet memes will also appear in the movie.
