Spike TV is developing a high-profile project set in the financial world. Deadline.com reports that the cable channel has “The Chairman” in the works, based on a Stephen Frey novel about a Gulf War veteran who takes over a billion-dollar private equity fund after its founder dies mysteriously.

The project is executive produced by Julian McMahon, Electus’ Ben Silverman and former AMC executive Jeremy Elice. The project may feature “Nip/Tuck” actor McMahon in the starring role, the story notes.

“When Julian McMahon and Greg Suess brought us this great book series, we knew it could be the basis of a stylized, smart, aggressive, character-driven story in the financial world unlike anything that has previously been on television,” Silverman said.
