An animated special is in the works at Disney Channel and Disney XD that's based on one of the Disney Parks' most popular attractions. The Los Angeles Times' Show Tracker reports that the special is inspired by the Haunted Mansion.
The animated project comes as director Guillermo del Toro is working on a script for his “Haunted Mansion” movie, the story notes.
The Disney Channel version will be directed by Gris Grimly, who is known for children’s book illustrations such as “Gris Grimly’s Wicked Nursery Rhymes,” while Scott Peterson and Joshua Pruett of “Phineas and Ferb” will write and produce.
“No word on when or if Disney plans to air the special, but this August marks the 45th anniversary of the opening of the first Haunted Mansion attraction in Disneyland. A similar version of the ride, with a different Dutch Gothic Revival exterior, opened in the Magic Kingdom in Florida in 1971,” the piece reports.
Del Toro, according to a recent Reddit AMA Q&A, said his team is four drafts into the “Haunted Mansion” script and still trying to iron it out.
