Set to premiere next week, a spy thriller has already received an order for a second season. The Hollywood Reporter's Live Feed reports that El Rey Network gave an early renewal to “Matador,” which bows July 15.
The drama, from executive producer Roberto Orci, is about professional soccer player Tony “Matador” Bravo, who is known for both his on-field play and his off-field antics, the story notes. Bravo, played by Gabriel Luna, is also a covert operative for the CIA.
“When Roberto first told me his concept for 'Matador,' I knew immediately that it had to have a home on El Rey," said Robert Rodriguez, El Rey founder and chairman. "This show exceeded every possible expectation we had in terms of great storytelling, incredible action and unique characters."
