An Oscar-winning actor known for being at least a little bit creepy — who can also sing and dance — has joined NBC's upcoming "Peter Pan Live."

The Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker reports that Christopher Walken, who won an Oscar in 1979 for "The Deer Hunter," will play Captain Hook — the villain with a hook for a hand and a strong desire to destroy the title character.

The announcement was made at the Television Critics Association press tour by NBC Entertainment Chairman Bob Greenblatt, who added, “It might be the first tap-dancing Captain Hook you’ve ever seen.” Greenblatt did not have an announcement about finding someone to play the lead role in the production, which reportedly has been a challenge to cast.

Walken, who has a background in musicals and on Broadway, is also known for his irreverent and often creepy portrayals on film. He’s currently in a role where he’s seen dancing in the film “Jersey Boys,” an adaptation of a Broadway musical. He has specialized in creepy characters in a string of movies including "Pulp Fiction," "The Dead Zone" and "Batman Returns."

The announcement is the first big casting news for the production, which will be produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. The live musical production follows the network’s successful “The Sound of Music Live,” also produced by Zadan and Meron.

“Peter Pan Live” will air Dec. 4.
