"Robert Downey Jr., the star of Disney's Marvel superhero film franchises 'Iron Man' and 'The Avengers,' is Hollywood's highest-paid actor for the second consecutive year," Reuters reports, from a list compiled by Forbes.

The Reuters story notes that Downey's estimated earnings were $75 million.

In second  place is someone who came late to movies. Says Reuters, "Former wrestler Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, 42, who starred in 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' and the 'Fast and Furious' films, jumped into second place this year from fifth in 2013 with earnings of $52 million."

Johnson, who  played in college on the 1991 Miami Hurricanes football team that won the national championship, was 30 years old before he was the lead star in a movie: "The Scorpion King," released in 2002.
