One of the players on NBC's venerable late-night sketch show “Saturday Night Live” has been fired from the show. Writing on Deadline.com, Nellie Andreeva reports that featured player Brooks Wheelan is off the show after one season.
His firing comes after a “difficult rebuilding season” at the show, and was widely expected, Andreeva writes, given that Wheelan received “very little screen time” and had a “hardly memorable season."
"SNL" boss Lorne Michaels has promised that the show's lineup would be tweaked in advance of next season, the story notes. He was quoted by Deadline in June saying, "We’re still in the middle of rebuilding. So there will be changes this year."
Wheelan announced the news on Twitter, writing, “Had a blast and loved every second of it. I’m totally honored to be able to make this next joke… FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT’S SATURDAY NIGHT!”
