Walt Disney World’s “American Idol” Experience attraction is being shut down ahead of schedule, reports the Orlando Sentinel.

The theme park will close the attraction Aug. 30, instead of the January 2015 closing date it had scheduled. A spokesman for the park said the change was part of its continuous review of its theme park offerings, the piece reports.

“The attraction opened in 2009 to much hoopla,” the report notes, adding that the launch was “a blue-carpet event that included TV host Ryan Seacrest and a sea of ‘American Idol’ winners and other contestants.”

The report adds: “For the first time, all ‘Idol’ champions appeared on the same stage at the same time. On hand were Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks and David Cook.”

The attraction allows visitors to act as contestants on the Fox show, with winners returning later in the day for a grand finale, the piece adds. The winner is given a “dream ticket” that allows him or her to get to the front of the line in auditions for the television competition.
