Report: State Department Investigating CNN Correspondent After Alleged Drunken Attack

The State Department is reportedly investigating a senior CNN correspondent after an incident in which she was allegedly drunk and abusive to two medics stationed at the U.S. embassy in Baghdad, reports the New York Post’s Page Six.

The incident involves CNN senior international correspondent Arwa Damon. Damon, 36, reportedly bit both EMTs on their arms as they tried to treat her on July 19, the story says. The medics on Monday filed a $2 million lawsuit against Damon and CNN.

She also reportedly threatened the EMTs, Tracy Lamar and Charles Simons, telling them she was a “major reporter for CNN,” the story adds.

The lawsuit claims that CNN hired Damon even though she allegedly “has a history of becoming intoxicated and then abusive,” and a “penchant for violence even when sober.”

Damon has reportedly written an apology to the U.S. embassy staff, the story notes. In an email, she wrote, “It’s been an extremely stressful time, I was exhausted, I had not had proper food all day and clearly miscalculated how my body would handle the alcohol consumed. … Needless to say, I am utterly mortified and take full responsibility for my actions, which are inexcusable.”

A CNN representative told the publication, “We are not aware of the alleged lawsuit and, therefore, have no comment.”

  1. Interesting how arrogant people become quite contrite when arrested. This chick should be kicked off CNN forthwith; she has no business being in the business. If she had eaten “proper food” instead of just guzzling alcohol, perhaps the incident would not have happened–but don’t bet on it with this sleazy woman.

  2. It’s always liquor. The excess consumption of liquor that gets journalists in trouble. Another one that has ruined her career.
