Is ‘Crossfire’ in Trouble? CNN Show Reportedly Scrapping Staff

CNN’s reboot of the political debate show “Crossfire” may be in trouble, according to a report by the Daily Caller.

Staffers from the show are being shifted over to “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer” and other shows, the report says. A publicist for CNN reportedly told the publication the show “is on extended hiatus.”

It wouldn’t be the first “extended hiatus” for the CNN show, which went off the air for eight years before the network revived it in 2013, with hosts Newt Gingrich, S.E. Cupp, Stephanie Cutter and Van Jones.

“But the show has never caught on. During the missing Malaysian airliner coverage, the program was routinely dropped for news for lengthy periods of time,” the piece notes.

  1. I caught the show often. It lacked a controlling, regular host/anchor.

Some good opposing viewed individuals were among the panelists, but without a host to keep responders in line, it often became no more than chaotic arguing.

I’ve hosted talk shows on radio knowing that my job was to see to it that everyone got a descent opportunity to express their points of view without someone else talking over them before they finished their thought. On this show I found myself yelling at the screen for the offenders to shut up.

So, CNN, you want a host/anchor who keeps the show moving and stays out of the fray while controlling the participants? You need only call.

  2. Agreed. Just a bunch of chaotic arguing. Glad CNN is dumping it!
