Fox Ups Its Order for Comedy Series

Nov 14, 2014  •  Post A Comment

Fox has increased its episode order for a comedy series that had been given an abbreviated season. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that the network ordered six additional episodes of “The Mindy Project,” bringing the show’s third season to 21 episodes — up from the modest 15-episode order the show had received previously.

The 15-episode order was a holdover from the regime of former network boss Kevin Reilly, who left Fox in June.

The series starring Mindy Kaling is paired with “New Girl” on Tuesday evenings.

“‘The Mindy Project’ has achieved a bit of cult status since premiering in 2012,” THR notes. “Though never a ratings juggernaut, it has courted critics — moreso after the first season thanks to some creative rejiggering. It also continues to give Fox the boon of being home to Kaling’s high profile.”

The show has been averaging a 1.6 rating in the key demo of adults 18-49 this season, figuring in time shifting.
