ABC’s “Good Morning America” appears to be consolidating its gains over morning rival “Today” after years of playing second fiddle to the NBC show. ABC announced today that “GMA” won its third consecutive November sweeps period, including wins in total viewers, the key news demo of adults 25-54 and the important 18-49 demo.

Citing the most current data from Nielsen Media Research, ABC reported that “GMA” topped “Today” by more than 183,000 viewers in the news demo, which ABC says is the largest margin for “GMA” in a November sweeps since November 1991.

In the latest sweeps period, “GMA” led “Today” in total viewers, 5.771 million to 5.122 million; in adults 25-54, 2.123 million to 1.940 million; and in adults 18-49, 1.540 million to 1.524 million.

“GMA’s” margin of victory of 183,000 viewers in the news demo almost doubles its margin of 95,000 from a year ago.

“CBS This Morning” trailed both “GMA” and “Today” in all three measures during the recent sweeps, tallying 3.404 million total viewers, 1.031 million in the news demo and 699,000 adults 18-49.

  1. Wow! Maybe Today needs to go back to two hours rather than having to program 4 hours of morning content. The last two hours are relatively meaningless and having to produce that many hours of content that is fresh is impossible.

  2. Wow, maybe they should reconsider the plan from the guy they just let go of? The Rv knew.

  3. Today hired this Jamie Horowitz guy to save the show … and axed him when he came up with a winning strategy that included fundamentally necessary on-air changes.

Matt – the most vapid man on TV – Lauer protected his failing team. Either way he makes millions…regardless of the ratings. Sad state of affairs for a once great show that meant so much to America. What remains is an embarassingly desperate shell.

Lauer is the albatross – and until he goes the ratings will continue to nosedive.

  4. Please fire Turness. She is a joke.
