A high-profile CBS drama is getting a cast reboot. Writing on Deadline.com, Nellie Andreeva reports that cast changes are coming to the summer series “Extant,” although the show’s star, Halle Berry, will remain.

Berry returns in the role of an astronaut named Molly who became pregnant while on a space mission. Also returning are her co-stars Pierce Gagnon, who plays her android son, and Grace Gummer, who portrays an assistant on the Humanichs Project.

Two other regulars will return for the start of the season, but then will depart, the story adds. They are Goran Visnjic, who plays Berry’s husband, and Camryn Manheim, who portrays her friend and co-worker, the story says. Not returning are Hiroyuki Sanada and Michael O’Neill.

“‘Extant’ is not cutting back as a couple of new series regulars will be added for Season 2. The cast changeover stems from the series’ new main storyline for Season 2, which will focus on Molly’s efforts to track down her alien son who is threatening the human race,” the piece notes.

The show drew an average of 8.64 million viewers in its first season. While its live performance wasn’t huge, the show performed well in DVR and online viewing, the piece notes.
