A performer who was declared by Guinness World Records in 2009 to be the most awarded female act of all time is the subject of an upcoming Lifetime biopic, and the new trailer for the high-profile project is going viral.

EW.com’s Inside TV reports that the trailer offers a look at Lifetime’s “Whitney,” which focuses on the life of Whitney Houston. Houston, known for singing the iconic version of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You,” was found dead in a hotel bathtub on Feb. 11, 2012, with her death later attributed to drowning and the effects of heart disease and cocaine use.

The Lifetime trailer “shows both the singer’s professional highs and personal lows,” EW reports.

The film, “Whitney,” premieres Jan. 17, with former “America’s Next Top Model” contestant Yaya DaCosta in the title role. Actress Angela Bassett makes her directorial debut with the project.

  1. Will DaCosta lip-sync or try to match Whitney with her own voice?
