High-Profile Super Bowl Ad Pulled After Provoking Outrage

A Super Bowl ad that elicited outrage from viewers will not air, Entertainment Weekly reports. GoDaddy CEO Blake Irving announced Tuesday on Twitter that the company has pulled the ad.

“The spot, which was posted to YouTube, shows a puppy who, after falling out of the back of his owner’s truck, returns home only to find out he’s been sold online (with a GoDaddy domain, of course),” EW reports.

Outraged animal rights activists launched a petition calling for the removal of the spot, with more than 40,000 people signing, the story notes.

Irving tweeted: “Thank you @animalrescuers for the candid feedback. What should have been a fun and funny ad clearly missed the mark and we will not air it.”

Here’s the controversial spot, that’s on YouTube:

  1. They got it right.

  2. What in the heck were those people thinking during the pitch? People love their animals. If you were going for shock…you got it. But that shock turned quickly into revulsion. People are so focused on being “different” that common sense falls to the floor.

  3. No animals were harmed during the filming of this commercial…It’s a commercial folks! I have two cats a rescue dog and love them all. No commercial, film, TV show is going to hit the mark with everyone all the time. Yes you have the right to be offended, you don’t have the right to tell me that I should be offended.
