Why Ben & Jerry’s Has Just Introduced Three New Ice Cream Flavors Now, in the Dead of Winter. It’s Our Non-TV Story of the Day

Ben & Jerry’s has just introduced three new flavors. More on those in a minute. The question we wondered about is why Ben & Jerry’s would introduce three new ice cream flavors in the middle of winter. Bloomberg Businessweek has our answer:

“The heart of ice cream season beats roughly from Memorial Day to Labor Day, but retailers reset their freezers in the start of the year so they can be fully stocked and consumers will be familiar with the new flavors by the time weather warms up,” according to John Henry Siedlecki, senior brand manager at Ben & Jerry’s. “Most new ice creams are launched from January to April, he notes, while other supermarket products make their debuts on different cycles. ‘I worked in laundry detergent and—depending upon which aisle you’re in in the store—you might get some summer resets,’ Siedlecki says.

Now, on to the flavors. They are all part of Ben & Jerry’s “Cookie Core” line. According to the company’s website, the Cookie Core line “feature a thick core of spoonable cookie butter right down the center of the pint.”

All of this is from that website as well.

The three new flavors are Boom Chocolatta: Mocha & Caramel Ice Creams with Chocolate Cookies, Fudge Flakes & a Chocolate Cookie Core; Peanut Buttah: Peanut Butter Ice Cream with Crunchy Peanut Butter Sugar Bits, Peanut Butter Cookies & a Peanut Butter Cookie Core; and Spectacular Speculoos: Dark Caramel & Vanilla Ice Creams with Speculoos Cookies & a Speculoos Cookie Butter Core.
