Travolta Reacts to the New HBO Documentary: Don’t Expect Any Scientology Bashing From Him

Actor John Travolta offered his thoughts on the new HBO documentary “Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief,” telling the Tampa Bay Times that he hasn’t seen the movie, “and I don’t really care to.”

The movie alleges improprieties in the Church of Scientology such as blackmail and physical abuse. Travolta is one of the church’s most high-profile followers, along with Tom Cruise. Since the movie debuted, some viewers have been calling on Travolta and Cruise to speak out against the church.

Travolta told the publication in a telephone interview: “I haven’t experienced anything that the hearsay has (claimed), so why would I communicate something that wasn’t true for me? It wouldn’t make sense, nor would it for Tom, I imagine.”

The actor said the church “has been nothing but brilliant for me,” and said the documentary represents the views of “people who were disgruntled with their experiences” with Scientology, the report notes.

Travolta adds: “I’ve been so happy with my (Scientology) experience in the last 40 years that I really don’t have anything to say that would shed light on (a documentary) so decidedly negative.”
